For me, cardiovascular fitness is not a “belief system”. It’s not about whether or not it “works” or “doesn’t work”. Being efficient at delivering oxygen throughout our bodies, and our ability to consume oxygen into our muscles is ESSENTIAL for all processes to “work”. In addition to being more efficient human machines, we will build muscle more effectively when we are more conditioned. There is certainly a balance to ensure that we do not become catabolic (in which case we ultimately burn through our glycogen & fat stores, and resort to our muscle; breaking it down to use for energy). This balance for me is intuitive with many years of experience under my belt, but it is best to learn your body, be sure to properly fuel up before, during, and after your workouts, and of course track your progress. Without trial and error, everything is just speculation. Unless you are part of a physical study, there has never been data collected specifically on your body👌
With that said, before I receive comments and messages asking for how much cardio to do, for how long, and all other specifics, I will say that without knowing more about you, I cannot responsibly prescribe your cardio routine.
